It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Mr. Einar W. Sissener, former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Alpharma Inc.

 Einar was the grandson of Einar A. Sissener, who founded the business in 1903 as Apothekernes Laboratorium (A.L) in Oslo, Norway, and the son of Wilhem Sissener, Managing Director of the Company. Einar joined the management team in 1960, then upon retiring from his role as Chairman in 2006, he became Chairman Emeritus. His four decades of leadership are best characterized by his drive to expand the company beyond it roots in Scandinavia. Under his leadership, Alpharma acquired many companies, products and facilities that resulted in leadership positions in the animal and human health markets, and a robust business presence in the United States.

While we mourn his passing, we continue to honor him by carrying forward the legacy he has left us; a vibrant, expanding business, passionate about serving our customers and committed to leadership in our industry.
